ServiceWorks at CPDC
From spring 2015 to July 2016, the CPDC AmeriCorps VISTA ServiceWorks team along with nearly 130 volunteers delivered a youth service and employability training program that empowered more than 100 young adults across the DC Metropolitan area with professional development, networking, and project management skills.
ServiceWorks – powered by AmeriCorps, Citi Foundation, and Points of Light Foundation – is a multi-year, nationwide initiative across 10 cities that helps underserved young adults (16‐24) develop the skills they need to prepare for college and careers through community engagement and volunteer service.

The Power of Service
CPDC and ServiceWorks share the belief that civic engagement and service leadership can be a pathway to success. A 2013 study by the Corporation for National and Community Service shows that:
Volunteering is associated with an increased likelihood of finding employment for all volunteers regardless of a person’s gender, age, ethnicity, geographical area or the job market conditions.
Volunteers without a high school diploma have a 51 percent higher likelihood of finding employment than non-volunteers without diplomas.
Volunteers have a 27 percent higher likelihood of finding jobs after being out of work than non-volunteers.
