Senior Living Enhancement (SLE)
Program Overview
In leveraging the community resources for seniors, CPDC focuses on those who can best address the needs of wellness, education, and civic engagement.
Nutrition classes, consultation, and meals services are available to senior residents to encourage them to make healthy choices. CPDC has worked with partners to design, develop, and implement an integrative program of healthcare, telecommunications, and computing technologies that enable senior residents to monitor their health and access health and social service systems.
To raise the standard of care in affordable housing for seniors, CPDC has also established a Healthcare Suite at our largest senior community to address the needs of the residents and serve as a model for other housing providers. Here, private physicians, podiatrists, and other medical practitioners can provide on-site services such as:
- Conducting a comprehensive Senior Health Survey
- Providing routine screening and health maintenance: physical, mental, dentistry, prescription, etc.
- Conducting workshops on health and wellness issues
- Managing nutrition programs through routine meal service
- Facilitating medical transport needs
- Facilitating home health care/aide needs, visiting nurses, etc.
- Working with case managers to develop a plan of care
CPDC's senior residents have access to computer resources, including training they can utilize to take advantage of technological initiatives geared toward education seniors on health and well-being, including web-based tools that allow seniors to access:
- healthcare
- insurance
- legal and medical services
- and programs of interest and benefit for senior adults
Finally, CPDC works to provide interactive leisure, social, and educational activities. In designing senior spaces, CPDC incorporates reading rooms, computer learning centers, libraries, and meeting spaces. Where possible, CPDC has also provided media viewing rooms, exercise facilities, and on-site commercial space for convenient access to businesses such as a hair care facility.
CPDC utilizes these spaces to encourage senior residents to participate in cross generational volunteer projects, career training, and technology classes. These tools, training, and resources empower seniors to remain engaged in their communities.
