The Gateway@ Edgewood Terrace serves
as a pilot for the Gateway concept.
The Gateway@ Edgewood Terrace serves as a pilot
for the Gateway concept. When complete, Edgewood Terrace I, a 292 unit
housing development in NE Washington, DC currently under renovation, will
feature a 40,000 square foot, state-of-the-art community center. Named
the Edgewood Connection, the multi-purpose space will house computer training
classrooms; music performance and instruction spaces, including a recording
studio; a day care and youth center; and adult support program facilities.
All of the residential units at Edgewood Terrace
I will be connected to EdgeNet and the Internet via an Ethernet connection,
a high-speed telecommunications media. This connection allows Edgewood
residents to browse EdgeNet and the web, send and receive email, post content
on EdgeNet, and check out chat rooms and bulletin boards.
Training classes being offered at Edgewood Terrace
begin with the Introduction To Computers curriculum, and progresses through
the Single Application courses and on to the Computer and Office Skills
Program. The Advanced Computer Applications program, an intensive
program to train residents for high-tech jobs, like network administrator
and web master, is being developed and is expected to begin in late 1998.
