The Coalition for Non Profit Housing Development is a District of Columbia-based membership organization offering networking and capacity building opportunities to its members, as well as housing resource information and public education on affordable housing issues. The Anacostia Museum is a Smithsonian museum, dedicated to African-American History and is located "East of the River" in Anacostia, Washington, DC. They have a Museum Site which discusses the materials displays at the museum, and a wonderful African-American Studies Site with links to lots of social and academic resources. The Fannie Mae web site is for individual home buyers, looking for "how to" information from "HomePath," lenders looking for on-line tools and up to date information on FannieMae products and services, and people interested in FanneMae's latest affordable housing and targeted housing initiatives. National Housing and Rehab Association and the NHRA Key Contacts Page--links to government agencies, funding sources, housing resources. National Low Income Housing Coalition represents tenants, affordable housing providers and developers, and social service providers interested in Federal low income housing policy. Their web site gives you access to NLIHC housing issue papers, policy updates, and recent publications. Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Coalition represents the growing list of private financial organizations and initiatives that make loans and investments that conventional banks and investors will not. The CDFI Coalition will keep you up to date in this quickly evolving sector, and can link you to nontraditional financial intermediaries for your housing and business needs.
Communities and Technology CTCNet is an organization of more than 150 centers providing technology access to underserved populations. The organization and its members are dedicated to the principals of equitable access to the powerful tools of information and computer technology. CPDC has been a member since 1996. Earth Pledge Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by renowned labor lawyer Theodore Kheel. It's mission is to support sustainable communities, manufacturing, resource usage, etc. Their Division for Sustainable Media, which views the Internet as a sustainable resource, produced this web page. e.villages is a division of Hamilton Securities, and started Edgewood Technology Services, a for-profit data-scrubbing operation located at Edgewood Terrace, a property owned by CPDC. ETS worked closely with e.villages and CPDC to develop a training-to-work program for residents of Edgewood Terrace receiving welfare, training them in Microsoft Office Professional, and then employing the residents. YouthNet --An East of the River Community Development Corporation computer training program for young people. This program teaches basic computer skills, introduces students to the web, and offers advanced classes in web design and site maintenance. YouthNet, Inc is an Internet services company run by YouthNet students and graduates. The Potomac KnowledgeWay is a local organization dedicated to transforming the Washington DC area into a high-tech corridor. This site includes a serachable database of local resources, a calendar of local technology related events and seminars, and a contacts list.
Non-Profit Resources The Foundation Center is a comprehensive fundraising and grant-application site, offering information of funding availabilities and advise on applying for funds. Independant Sector is a national leadership forum, working to encourage philanthropy, volunteering, not-for-profit initiative and citizen action that help us better serve people and communities. The US Bureau of the Census provides open access to Census Data, which can be retrieved by the nation as a whole, by region, by state, by urban area, by congressional district, and even by Census Tract. This remarkable service is fast and very easy to use, and can provide great statistics for grant writing, or for getting to know an area. TeachNet is the one-stop World Wide Web site for teachers sponsored by IMPACT II--The Teachers Network, an independent non-profit nationwide educational organization that supports innovative teachers who exemplify professionalism, independence, and creativity in public school systems. The site offers "battle-tested" classroom exercises and projects for students to perform in class. A great resource!
