J. Michael Pitchford is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of CPDC.

Mr. Pitchford has developed a strong understanding of how national and local policy impact housing affordability while serving on the Board of the National Housing Conference for a decade, including three years as its president. Together with his leadership skills in generating a shared vision with employees, this experience made him an expert in building infrastructure for stable and rapid growth.

Mr. Pitchford also has participated in or led associations, workshops, conferences, and forums on housing policy, networking, and the sharing of best practices. He has held leadership roles with the National Equity Fund, the Urban Land Institute, the Housing Partnership Network, the Housing Partnership Equity Trust and the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors.

Previously Mr. Pitchford led the Community Development Equity Group at Bank of America Corporation in Charlotte, NC. Under his ten year leadership, the Group developed or rehabilitated 23,000 units of affordable housing and increased LIHTC equity commitments by 3,000%. Most of these communities included Make a Difference Centers, which are resident life programs tailored to the needs of the resident population with services including computer training for residents of all ages, career and academic mentoring, after school programs and on-site health clinics.

Mr. Pitchford is a member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Boards of Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition, the Anne Arundel Affordable Housing Coalition, the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers, the Terwilliger Center for Housing, the Housing Partnership Network and the Housing Partnership Equity Trust. He is a Past Chairman of the Affordable Housing Council of ULI and is a Past Chairman of the National Housing Conference.  

Mr. Pitchford is an Instructor and teaches community development and affordable housing at the Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development in the School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation at the University of Maryland and also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Public Policy.  He is a graduate of Leadership Greater Washington.  Mr. Pitchford earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Old Dominion University.
