Recognizing that if
people can't connect, they can't participate in the
information revolution, CPDC created The Gateway program to
provide residents of housing developments throughout the
Washington, DC, metropolitan area with access to current
computer technology, the training to use it, and
job-placement assistance.

More about the Gateway mission
of providing access, training and job-placement
assistance.

The first and largest Gateway
program, The Gateway@ Edgewood Terrace is part of the 40,000
square foot community center called the Edgewood Connection.
This center is designed to deliver a wide variety of
training options to residents of Edgewood Terrace right
where
they live.

Follow the development of
EdgeNet, an intranet-style network for the residents and
service providers at Edgewood Terrace and other
properties.

Training is the cornerstone of
The Gateway program, because technology can't be a part of
the solution if people don't understand how to use
it.

With several programs underway, CPDC's Gateway is showing
signs of success--both in training residents and in building
partnerships with community organizations.

CPDC's Gateway program serves as a model for other housing
developments and human service organizations looking to
establish community centers, computer training and
employment services.
