As Summer Heats Up, CPDC Focuses on Safety, Prevention
As a trusted affordable housing and community developer, at CPDC, we take seriously the safety of residents and the surrounding neighborhoods.
This summer, a spike in violent crime in the District, where we have 14 communities, has not gone unnoticed. According to the Washington Post, a surge in killings has pushed the District’s homicide count up 20 percent this year. The increase comes as the department also deals with the departure of about 500 officers over the past 18 months.
To address crime trends in D.C., CPDC recently launched “Collaborating for Prevention,” a city-wide safety initiative. The goal: to improve resident-police relationships and ensure long-term growth, sustainability and strength of local communities. During phase 1 of the initiative, we’re gathering information from D.C. residents via the D.C. Public Safety Survey. Results of the survey, which closes on September 1, 2015, will serve as the informed foundation for phase 2 solutions.
Stay tuned to our website for updates on “Collaborating for Prevention.” Also, throughout August, we’ll be sharing practical tips and insights on community safety here on the CPDC blog.
